The Erie County Rath building in Downtown Buffalo was named after the first Erie County Executive, Edward A. Rath. It has 16 floors. This building is directly across from the Erie County Clerks & Court Building. Upon entry into the Rath building, there is a security check with armed guards and metal detection. This is where Buffalo Social Services is located. The Erie county property tax payment cashier is here too. If paying Erie County property tax in person, this is where to pay.
Rath Building Parking
There are two pay lots and a pay ramp within a block and a half on Pearl Street. Pearl street is the street where the Main Place Mall Entrances are. If one is standing with their back to the the rath building, turn left down Pearl Street.

What documentation will be required to apply?
- Proof of identity.
- Proof of address, unless an applicant is homeless.
- Social security number of everyone who is applying. If an applicant does not have a social security number, they will have to apply for one.
- Proof of the amount of all earned and unearned income before taxes or deductions.
- Household members.
- Proof of housing costs.
- Proof of immigration status for non-citizens.
- Proof of child support payments.
- Proof of out-of-pocket medical expenses if 60 or older or proof of federal disability benefits.
- Proof of child care expenses.
- If possible, applicants should submit all documentation with their applications.
