St. Paul's Church Buffalo NY

St. Paul's Cathedral sits on a triangular lot in downtown Buffalo.  Those geometrically inclined know a triangle has three sides. This is interesting because in Catholicism, 3 is a significant number. Built in 1873, St Paul's is a 274 foot high structure and it is made of Medina Sandstone. This gives it an almost a blood red color. The Architects Richard Upjohn & Robert Gibson both British born designed the building. Richard Upjohn had previous experience building the Trinity Church located in New York City. St. Paul's Church Buffalo NY Cathedral was built in the "Gothic Revival" style. St. Paul's church Buffalo NY is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is registered as a U.S. National Historic Landmark. Today St. Paul's is an Episcopal Parish church.

Beautiful and Timeless (st pauls Buffalo NY)

From the outside the building speaks of ancient geometry. The round shapes that outline the building are in the form of towers staircases and abutments. The colors grab the imagination as does the Gothic Style that connects it all together. When standing next to the building, one begins to get that feeling that something much more is going on here". And they'd be right. Walk up the spiraled staircase to the entrance doors, walk inside and this is when we forget where we just came from. The sheer beauty and space of the interior grabs the minds attention immediately.

The very high chambered ceiling sets off the mood and gives the impression that one is in a special place. Then light penetrating through the stained glass windows illuminates the many Christian scenes in unrivaled color and beauty. This gives an uplifting and welcoming feeling of all who visit.(see pictures).

I have lived in Buffalo for almost half a century. One day on a whim while in downtown Buffalo, me, my father and my cousin decided to check out the inside of st pauls buffalo.. We were blown away by the beauty and detail that adorns this church. Definitely worth a walk through even if not attending a service.
