Description

Buffalo Police & Fire Headquarters

"Old Michael J. Dillon Federal Courthouse"

This historic building occupies an entire block in the famed Niagara square.
The architectural style is "Art Moderne" favored by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) at the time. The buildings shape is pentagonal and was created this way specifically based on the geometry of the land it was built on. The Fire & Police headquarters is just a 2 minute walk to City Hall.

After completion of the new Robert H. Jackson federal Courthouse in 2012, the Dillon Courthouse became vacant. In 2016 building was acquired by the City of Buffalo.

The City of Buffalo allocated $1.9 million for the renovation cost of the building for the new Buffalo Police Headquarters. The Building is now the new Buffalo Police and Fire Headquarters. Pictures of the old location (Church & Franklin Streets) can be seen in the picture gallery. Some areas of the new location were preserved for historic reasons. The building is eligible for placement in the national register for historical places. At least one courtroom was preserved but public viewing is limited.
