Geological Conditions Make This Beach a Winner

The beach was a European attraction as far back as 1888. This beach near Buffalo NY is for kids and the whole family to enjoy. Swimmers are able to get out pretty far before the water gets to chest level. When at this point and looking back to shore, one might think wow how is this possible? This is because the beach's shore line is parallel to a natural sand dune sixty feet high and 1,200 feet long causing a massive shallow zone.

Ah, The Beach Sand

Crystal Beach sand is soft, white and deep. One could easily fall to sleep in it. Kids can build and dig till their hearts content. When stepping into the water at the shore, the soft sand under the water squeezes through the toes and cushions the feet. This is constant all the way out till the water starts to get deep and beyond.  Kids can play catch in the water.  floatation devices are allowed. Admission is free. Alcoholic beverages are NOT allowed and this is enforced. Visitors can bring food and canned beverages. No glass for obvious reasons. There are men's and women's restrooms and a food stand.

The Parking Situation

There are parking spots on the street marked by yellow lines. If none are available there are two good sized pay lots further north along Erie street. About a 3 minute walk to the beach.
