The Buffalo History museum is located in North Buffalo NY. Precisely at the west end of Hoyt Lake. A man made lake. In 1960 the name of the museum was the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society. In 2012 It was shortened to the Buffalo History Museum. The Buffalo History Museum is Part of the Buffalo Historical Society, est. in 1862. Home town architect, George Cary designed this beautiful building for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition.
The museum has major collections of the Holland Land Company, U.S. President Millard Fillmore, the Seneca Indians, the Buffalo Bills, the Larkin Company, and of course the Pan-American Exposition all this and more.
The Spirit of the City, is the History Museum’s 3,000 square foot space featuring an exhibit showcasing the Pan-American Exposition. Documenting this important event in United States history.
In 2008, the restoration of the Apostles Clock brought the clock back to fantastic working condition and is truly a sight to behold. Visitors will see this clock fixed prominently near the entrance way into the museum. The Apostolic Clock produces 12 apostles every 30 minutes. Each apostle bows to Jesus as they pass on their way back into the clock.
See the video on this page to see the clock in action.
Here we can explore the region’s history through its first inhabitants while highlighting the formation and the evolution of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The exhibit includes a walk-in longhouse. This includes a dazzling gustoweh (headdress) display. Also see Red Jacket's cherished peace medal.
Go back in time to learn about some of the early business shops in Buffalo NY. Some examples include the Bliss Bros Studio (interactive photos), Adam Meldrum & Company and Millard Fillmore's carriage.
